From the creation stories of Genesis, through the radicalism of the prophets, to the poetic visions of Psalms, this course will sample the literature of the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) in conversation with later biblically-relevant fiction, poetry, art, and film.   Our primary emphasis will be on the literary qualities of the texts we read, but we will also think actively about the historical backgrounds and enduring cultural significance of this essential book of books.
