We are living in “a new golden age” of storytelling, according to New Yorker writer Rebecca Mead, “in the form of the podcast.” Mead cites a recent study conducted by Edison Research, which found that nearly a quarter of Americans listen to podcasts at least once a month. In this class, students will learn how to produce audio stories, as heard on Serial, This American Life, The Daily, and more. We will do this through analysis of professional podcasts and studying interviewing and research techniques, story development, script writing, recording, editing of sound, mixing, and final production. Students will be encouraged to develop their own personal voices and styles.
